Hailing from Burlington, Vermont, Justin Levinson’s 2009 breakthrough hit Waiting For Someone to Love Me earned him a nomination for Sirius Radio Singer-Songwriter Discovery of the Year.
On his latest release THIS SIDE OF ME, THIS SIDE OF YOU, Levinson is backed by “The Valcours” featuring Simon Plumpton on drums, Sean Witters on guitar, Seth Barbiero on bass, Josh Glass on organ and producer Colin McCaffrey on a little bit of everything.
Levinson describes the project as an independent powerpop band that, on its new record plays what he calls “feel good heartbreak.”
The sound is an eclectic mix of piano, loud guitars, horns, strings, and dreamy harmonies, and features contributions from acclaimed singer/songwriters Will Dailey, Gregory Douglass, and a terrific duet with Liz Longley.
MusicZeitgeist asked the artist to talk a little about the history and development of the project:
“The band formed about a year ago and we decided to make this album a group effort. [My] records were mostly done with session players. This was a much better bonding experience and made everything more organic. We just finished an East Coast tour where we traveled Burlington Vermont, New York City, Washington DC, Philly and Boston. Attendance was great and we have decided to do a longer two week tour late summer.”
